        Light Show!

           Sonoluminescence

            (Genesis 1:1-5)

            Sonoluminescence:

This is a fancy word for intense sound hitting water and causing light!
Sonoluminescence was discovered in 1934 by two German physicists who immersed powerful ultrasound generators in a vessel of water, creating a cloud of tiny bubbles that gave off a glow.
Although this seems quite simple, scientists have a hard time knowing how this happens! How can light be produced by intense sound and water? This does sound like Genesis 1 when God’s voice boomed over the water “Let there be light!”
God’s voice is recorded in the Bible as so intense that it sounds like thunder and a voice of many waters! No doubt, the voice of God could make light!!!! In fact, God does not need water to produce light, but we wanted to point out this neat science evidence that tells us water plus intense sound can cause light!
Could you imagine the water that day when God’s voice rang out and light shone as the water reflected? It must have been beautiful and breath-taking!

The very presence of God sends a rainbow around the throne too the Bible tells us! What a colorful light filled day the first day of creation must have been!

With the beauty of color and God’s voice as sound, we now know that sound happened on Day 1 of creation too! And with sound we have music, and harmonies so not only was light, color, and water made, so was sound for the first time in history as God thundered his voice with a command: “Let there be light.” And there was light.

    Iridescence:

Another special feature of light God created was iridescence. This means that when light hits an object it projects in lots of different colors! Here is a beetle that seems to be colored but is only reflecting like a prism the different colors of light!

For instance, did you know butterfly wings have no color at all but when light shines down on them, we see prisms of different colors because of the way each tiny fiber it tilted?!

Truly, light is more than the sun moon and stars! God created the light, then he gave the light order.

A Microscopic view of Blue Morpho Butterfly Wing!

Can you spot the yellow, orange, green and reddish hues in the wing? I saw this myself in a microscope as I zoomed in on the wing of a blue morpho butterfly, they changed colors the more I zoomed until I could see all the colors of the rainbow!

Where does light and darkness dwell?

God challenged Job in chapter 38 (Job 38:19-21) with a good question: He asked Job, where does light dwell or live? And where is the place darkness is coming from? And he goes on to ask Job: If you could take a path to the house that has it or bind it up where would you go to find it? (Paraphrased) That is a good challenge!

We will never know all there is to know about light and darkness. And we will never ever know where it comes from! God must like for this to stay a mystery!

One reason he says he is the Light of the World: We will never fully understand God. Nor will we ever understand light! But we know they are there, and we can appreciate them very much!

           Order of Light:

Did you know light travels? It travels in specific ways. That’s what we call wavelengths and since it travels perfectly straight until it hits an object like a wall, or the ground, even water, it causes it to have waves like the sea in pattern. Light bending is what allows us to see the light in colors!

Light travels extremely fast! So fast that when you turn on your light Boom! It is completely filling your room! That’s pretty fast! If light did not travel perfectly straight through the air, then we would see bright colors all the time in the sky like the northern lights (aurora borealis.)

            First Names Given:

Although Earth was not created this day like you see in the picture, you can see a divide between light and darkness. God names the light Day, and the darkness: Night.

When you use those words remember that God named them. That is so amazing isn’t it?

In fact, there was no dry land showing named earth yet, just tons and tons of water. But God gave names to water and the dry land later as well!

God must like names because it helps bring more order and help categorize what things are. This makes it easy for man to keep up too! You have a name. Jesus has a name so I think in the beginning God thought names were important too!

The book of John talks about how that in Jesus was life and the life was the light of men! Without God we are dark souls. Without any spark of hope!

Science has recently discovered that when you were conceived in your mother’s womb a light sparked forth when you became alive! So, the Bible once again is correct about life being light!

Without the Light, we are nothing. Just like the water must have the intense sound to have light, and without light we are a dark colorless blah like the beetle who is iridescent.

We are especially chosen to be iridescent for Jesus and reflect his light to everyone in the world! And not let sin, or the wrong friends who abide in darkness to get in the way from us reflecting that pure light of Jesus!
