Creation Day 1 (Part II.)

Light & Color

            (Genesis 1:1-5.)

          What was the light source?

When we see light, we know it must be coming from somewhere! This is called a light source: It could be the sun, your lamp in your room, a flashlight, car lights,  streetlights, or even a light of a jet passing overhead.

Without something bearing light, we have complete darkness.

That is because on this special day of creation, God created the energy or sources that make the light happen.

Some think perhaps on this day that light was God himself shining his glory, but the     Bible talks about the Spirit of God moving on the face of the waters when it was dark, so His presence was already there.

The Creation account in Genesis was God making literal things. Meaning that when God said “Let there be light” we do not think that it was as simple as God simply shining his glory down but the real presence of light.

He created light into existence before there was the light source of sun moon or stars. But without the sun moon or stars (sources of light) what could this light be?

There is a lot of guess work what exactly the light was, but here are some ideas of exactly what God created on the first day:

     Colors on day 1:

We have more light sources than just natural sunlight or stars. In fact, because     of the way light works in various wavelengths, we have different colors. The     wavelengths make up what is called the electro-magnetic spectrum ranging from     the longest wavelength to the shortest.

White light is only white to our eyes because we don’t have a way of dividing the     colors to separate them away from one another without aid. We would need what is     called a prism to see color in light. You can buy a glass prism to use at home that will     divide the light into a gorgeous looking rainbow!

When God made all types of forms of light, he created all the colors that we see! Which include all the beauty around us that we appreciate every single day!

The Northern Lights are a perfect example of beauty and color! They react with the sun! The special effects happen when the solar wind gets past the magnetic field of our atmosphere and travels towards Earth. The solar wind hits the atmosphere and as the protons and electrons from this wind hit the particles in the Earth's atmosphere, they release energy – and this is what causes the northern lights. That’s so neat isn’t it? What beauty that is!

Is there light we cannot see? And why?

Yes! There are wavelengths of light that humans cannot see without special equipment! We use this kind of light for technology such as infrared camera’s or TV controllers!

• Radio waves

• Microwaves

• Infrared

• Ultraviolet light,

• X-rays

• Gamma-rays.

Why would God create light that we could not see with our human eyes? Good question! God did not create all of nature with the same eyes, or with all the same amount of eyes!

Along with many other insects, the spider, which has from 8 to 12 little beady eyes, can see in the light spectrum of ultraviolet light. This light is a shorter wavelength than the color violet which we can see with the naked eye. But we cannot see ultraviolet light without detectors that are sensitive to convert it into a form that we can see.

Snakes and other reptiles see infrared light.

Your pet doggie may only see colors in pastels not bright vivid colors you     and I can see!

Before God created animals, insects, plants, and marine wildlife, he knew         each tiny creature would design each creature to see in a way that would help     it to find food, hunt in the night, see from afar, and so much more! Not only did     he see we all needed more than sun moon and stars, but He also created     special wavelengths of light so each one could see! What an amazing Creator!

We learned that day 1 is not only God creating light, but that he created so much more than that! He created:

1. Light but not the sun moon or stars

2. Color by different wavelengths of light.

3. We cannot see some wavelengths of light.

4. The Northern Lights are a perfect example of beauty and color! They react with the sun! Just like we should react with our Son Jesus to bring him glory!

5. Other animals, insects, and life sees light differently than we do.

6. Our Creator thought of everything at the beginning with purpose and design.
