            DNA Introduction:

DNA is short for deoxyribonucleic acid. It has been called the most mysterious molecule in the universe.

DNA is so very special carrying all life’s information like an instruction book, it is like its own language coding each part of each animal, person, and life form!

DNA is very organized that it can be read like a language. It perfectly replicates itself as special proteins read the DNA strands. This is called transcription. In order to do this, the double helix to the DNA must unzip itself into a single strand of molecules. After the proteins read what it needs to recreate another new strand, the DNA zips back up!

Because its operation is so amazing, and organized, anyone who believes that everything evolved over millions of years marvel: How did DNA come to be so complex and show intelligence? They see the order and organized information that codes all of life, and it is clear that DNA did not pop into being for no reason or by random chance. Order, and language is a sign of intelligent on-purpose design. Perhaps DNA is the best evidence that God created the world and everything in it.

Scientists also see a special sequence within DNA and how it functions. They want to recreate the molecule in a laboratory all by themselves, but it is impossible. They cannot recreate DNA! This idea would be the same as creating the 22 million books in the library of Congress by having a monkey randomly doodle symbols on each page!

It is amazing that DNA can hold so much information! In fact, scientists have always wondered if there was a way that they could turn DNA into a storage device of information like a terabyte drive. They were surprised at what they were able to do!

It’s much too complicated to explain in one lesson, but they found One gram of DNA can hold as much information as one trillion CDs.

A geneticist at Harvard’s Wyss Institute: George Church, and Sri Kosuri, a biochemist now at the University of California, were able to take one gram of DNA and turn it into “digital storage” through a binary process that would allow that one tiny gram of DNA to become storage like a computer drive that could store around 700 Terabytes of data (like images, videos, documents, like a computer drive does). This beat the world record of storage by a lot!

This information storage system discovery works so well that microscopic spec smaller than a dust particle of DNA could hold a copy of every high-resolution movie ever produced, plus every movie released in the next hundred years with room to spare!

Over 14,000 Blu-ray DVDs holding 50 GB (Gigabytes) each could fit into 1 gram of DNA.

If you took a small drop of DNA (that would fit on the tip of your pinky,) and filled it up with storage, to transfer all that digital content onto a Terabyte drive, you would need 699 Terabyte drives! That is a lot of space!

It is hard to believe that with two grams of DNA or so, we could store all the data that humans have ever recorded in history, and it all fit in a container they say the size and weight of just a couple of pickup trucks!

So, you might could say all the world’s data could be contained in one room, and if kept in the right dry conditions and temperatures, could last for thousands of years!

As advanced as modern technology has become, mankind's greatest achievements and mighty technological advances are child's play when compared with what God has produced in DNA.

DNA FUN FACTS:

  •         If you put all the DNA molecules in your body end to end, the DNA would reach from the Earth to the Sun and back over 600 times! This is the same as the distance between earth and Pluto.
  • A parent and child share 99.5% of the same DNA.

  •      The first documented discovery of DNA was in 1869 by a man named Friedrich Miescher.
  •      It was only in 1943 that scientists became aware of the fact that genetic information is stored in DNA. Prior to that, it was believed that genetic information was stored in proteins.
  •

  •            If we wanted to store all the digital information in this world, all we would need is 2 grams of DNA.
  •            Deoxyribonucleic acid (the word) was first used in the 1930s.

We learned some really neat facts about our DNA and how it can actually store data when scientists work really hard to make it happen.

We also learned that our DNA is called the most mysterious molecule in the universe!

We also learned that there is no way that scientists can create DNA on their own.

When talking about storing all the information, imagine that God has control of all this information.

The Bible talks about in the last days that knowledge would be increased before he comes back for his children. This is one sign that Jesus Christ is coming soon to gather up all who believe in him into the clouds!

Most importantly, It is the most amazing thing that the human brain is a storage system all its own! Every day, they estimate that the human brain is loaded every single day with 34 Gigabytes of information! (videos, images, things we view, words we read, etc.) Overall, our human brain can contain 2.5. million gigabytes of digital memory! And that is a low number to throw out there! WOW!

What do we do with all of this storage?

The Bible talks about laying up treasures for ourselves in Heaven because on earth, the moth corrupts things and thieves break in and steal things. It’s better for us to focus on the Spiritual things and seek those things that are above: serving others, and God, by doing things like spreading God’s Word to others, singing to the Lord, serving the way God would have us serve Him without worrying about what will happen to tangible things.

Instead of cramming our head with things that don’t really matter, it is of utmost importance that we fill our hearts and minds with the Words of God by memorizing Bible verses that help to live day to day in the way Jesus would have us walk and live. This would be the most powerful tool of knowledge!

If we know God’s Word, it keeps us from sin, it shines a light to our paths for direction, it teaches us more than our teachers, and it keeps us from evil! It helps us to know what to say and how to live our lives to the best of our ability. It also helps us to learn to be kind, loving, and Christ-like.

So, get out your Bible, find verses that help you, and store them away in your memory banks of limitless storage!
